Wedding FAQs

Community Group

We have created a Kelly & Weiss Wedding 2022 Facebook group for all attending guests. As part of your RSVP,  you will be given access to our Facebook group. This is where we will communicate with all our guests through this platform any updated information; it is also a great platform for you to ask questions, share photos, organise shared rideshares etc.

Dress Attire

Cocktail Attire is requested for both the Darwin and Los Gatos wedding.

Please note that both weddings are outdoors when considering your footwear.

Can my children attend the weddings?

Darwin: We welcome children to the ceremony at St. Mary’s of the Sea Cathedral in Darwin, however, the reception at 5 pm will be an adults-only affair.

Los Gatos: Although we love your little ones, our wedding is an adults-only event.

Australia

Flights:

Direct flights from SFO to Australia are through United and there is a stop in Sydney. From Sydney you can travel up to Darwin on a connecting flight.
If you are deciding to tour a little in Australia beforehand (which we’d highly recommend) the best is to go from LAX -> Brisbane (if you’re staying at the Brisbane Air BnB before).

My suggestion:
  • LAX – Brisbane – Cairns – Darwin
  • This is the quickest flight option if you are going up to Cairns.
Otherwise, you can do:
  • SFO – Sydney – Darwin and then do any touring after that.
  • Just an FYI Cairns -> Darwin is a two-hour flight so definitely try and go directly from there if you can.

Where to stay?

Brisbane:

We’d like to offer you to stay at our Air BnB in Brisbane if you’re staying in Brisbane beforehand – just let us know and we’ll book it out complimentary for our guests. There could be other people also staying there as there will be 3 rooms available in the house so if you’re ok sharing – go for it! From Brisbane, there are some awesome places to go and check out like the Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast with fabulous beaches and some great iconic Aussie things.

Darwin:

Mindil Beach Casino Resort – book through this website to receive 15% off best available rate https://reservations.travelclick.com/72388?groupID=3458402

If you’re coming from the US you will likely stay with Eric and Dany at their house: 80 Cullen Bay Cres, Larrakeyah – please chat to us as we have a big house there with lots of room to accommodate people.

Things to do in Cairns (if you’re doing a stopover at the Great Barrier Reef beforehand):

Where to stay?

We have stayed here and it is amazing: https://www.daintree-ecolodge.com.au/ it’s more of a one night thing as you travel up the east coast.

Staying near the Great Barrier Reef there are lots of places as it’s pretty big (along the ocean) but this is great place to stay with a group of people: https://www.alkiraresorthouse.com.au/about/ we stayed here for Dany’s Mum’s 60th birthday last year and it was super fun. We totally recommend it if there are more people that end up deciding on a similar trip (we’ll have a FB group so people can ask questions and share hints and tips, photos etc.).

There are lots of places to go and see the Great Barrier Reef and most of them leave from a beautiful place called Port Douglas. The tours here are often for the masses of tourists. Few tourists go and travel up to Cape Tribulation but we would highly recommend seeing the Great Barrier Reef from up at Cape Tribulation with this company: https://oceansafari.com.au/daintree/cape-tribulation/

If you do decide on this you can also do this tour: https://www.capetribhorserides.com.au/ the guy that runs this is a bit of a nutter, but, it’s definitely fabulous experience.

Finally, if you do decide to stay in the more touristy Port Douglas this is the best Air BnB there.  It looks like it’s only available after the wedding, but, you could always try and see if you can get there beforehand by messaging them.

USA

Flights:

Getting to the USA from Australia is a hop, skip and a jump depending on where you’re based.

Hubs:
  • Brisbane – Nadi – SFO is currently the quickest through Fiji Airlines (maybe incorporate a Fijian holiday at the same time)
  • Darwin – Sydney – SFO is the most direct with Qantas

Where to stay?

San Francisco

We recommend if you’re travelling from out of town look for a place in Redwood City, CA near us to join in the wedding festivities. There are many hotel and Air BnB/VRBO options.

For the evening of the wedding if you’d like to stay closer to the event space these are the places that Nestldown recommends.
